When she opened her eyes the following morning, the room was lightly changed. There was a blue light shining in through the overhead ceiling and she saw a second orb floating in the sky. It shined blue… turning the sky a similar color.

“The local sun,” Ugil said.

She rolled her head and found him still lying next to her. He was still naked and propped up on one elbow, looking down at her.

“It’s beautiful,” she said.

He reached out and let his fingers trace circles around her areolas. “This was the only world I could find that came close to mimicking Earth’s sky. It’s not an exact match… but it comes near enough.”

She rolled over onto her side, looking at him. “I like it.”

He smiled.

“Can I ask a question?”

“Of course.”

She licked her lips. “Why Earth? I mean… there have to be billions of other societies out there that are more interesting. So why there?”

His fingers continued to draw invisible shapes on her flesh. “I’m not sure… I suppose… I was jealous.”

“Jealous?” she asked, almost incredulously. “Of humans?”

He sighed. “I do not think often of my birth world, but there is one thing that I can tell you about it that often made me upset.”

“What was that?” she asked, using her own fingers to brush at his muscular chest.

“My society… it existed the way it does now for hundreds of thousands of years. No changes. It’s been that way since your kind were still living in caves. There had been no change… nothing interesting…”

She saw where he was going with this. “And because on Earth, our way of life changed so much… you got jealous?”

He nodded. “Tribes became clans… you traded claws for clubs… iron for steel… steel for gunpowder… chieftains for presidents… huts for hovels… villages for cities… city states for countries… monarchies for republics… all within the spans of several hundred years at a time. It was… amazing.”

She felt flattered and for no reason other than being a human and having been a part of the changes that her husband admired… at least in an ancestral sense. “I suppose some might think your fascination with a primitive culture would be vulgar.”

“Many did,” he said plainly. “That was also part of the reason why I left my home and came here. Here there can be change. Things could get better… or worse. But it won’t be as it was on my home world, where progress and knowledge must stand still. And I will be here to witness it.” He looked at her. “And so will you.”

She blushed. “I hope you won’t think too highly of me, Ugil. I might disappoint you.”

He shook his head. “No… I’ve heard that human women were pitiful lovers from those that have sampled such before. But… I was not disappointed. I was worried that you would have thought me to be inadequate.”

“I didn’t,” she promised. “You were… wow.”

It was his turn to blush.

She enjoyed looking at him and though somewhere in the back of her mind a little voice was taunting her.
